Remember ADML Posts?
I wonder how many people think about LiveJournal each day. Does anyone remember it fondly, or was it just an emotional dump turned wasteland like MySpace?
I keep reminiscing about A Day in My Life posts on LiveJournal. The funny thing is that we have ADML posts all over the internet in the form of TikToks, Instagram Reels and Stories, and Facebook. But there was something special about the first of its kind, an innocence perhaps, with posts containing 20-30 pictures taken throughout one day, with minimal captions for each. There were groups within LiveJournal that had very specific rules about contributed posts in order to differentiate their group from others. Some demanded a picture from every half hour of the day no matter how mundane the content. Others wanted no captions, only timestamps. Most of the groups I followed wanted a sentence or two for each picture to give more context.
It was a simple way to get a look into the lives of others around the world. I remember a lot of Western and Central Europeans in the groups that I enjoyed most. I always felt like my life wasn't interesting enough to post, but I had to remind myself that the other contributers likely felt the same.
In honor of nostalgia, here is A Day in My Life:
This is not going to be a long post because I did not do much on Saturday, April 29th.
I start each day with English breakfast tea and honey, cooled down with ice because otherwise I would not be able to drink it for an hour in my Yeti mug.
I awoke at noon this day, which is not long after I typically awake since being out of work on medical leave. Jorah stared at me like this while I enjoyed my tea until I agreed to take him outside.
Mike made us chicken sandwiches with Bare Chicken breast fillets and potato buns. I put mayo and the devil's (chik fil a) sauce on mine. We watched the latest episode of Ted Lasso.
Jorah roped us into taking him to the dog park.
Where he aggressively chased this Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy for not long enough to get his pent up energy out.
Later in the afternoon, I decided to finally eat this chocolate bunny that I had been saving for a literal rainy day.
The sugar crash happened quickly due to the crappy weather, and I took an hour long nap on the couch.
My dinner was a pretzel with cheese and a hot dog from the concession stand...
...of a drive in movie theatre! Have you ever been to one? I saw Creed 3 and Scream 6. The movies were not great, but it's really more about the experience when you go to a drive in theatre.
This was a short ADML post, but I hope to do more of these in the future. It can be fun taking pictures of random things through out the day with the intention to share them later and not instantly on the grams. Besides, I have a flip phone now, so I will not be online as often as I have been. That makes it very difficult to post in real time.
