Southwestern Michigan (001)

Driving through southwestern Michigan feels like stepping through a wormhole during a solar flare. If you don’t pay attention to the vehicles, the area is stuck in 1980. Buildings are a bit worn down, old barns ready to be kindling, chain restaurants with retro signage.

I cannot help but stare at Amish buggies as we pass. Their horses look well fed and cared for, tugging the enclosed winter carriages. “They’re probably thinking, look at these new fancy buggies that don’t require me!” Are they wishing the humans would upgrade, or are they proud of their work?
